Prepping Noah's Ark

Here is my Halloween costume being tailored, pretty real huh.?

So this juvenile Black Bear is under going a dental exam to see if she has been eating the bark off the young Douglas Fir trees.  These trees are the main revenue that the Hupa people harvest for timber.  The bears are scraping the bark to get at the sugars in the tree, thus killing the tree and making sad Indians.  So we are trying to find out how many bears on the reservation are involved in this operation.  Those that are found guilty are sadly euthanized.

Is this a bird or a fish?

So the answer to this question is, neither.  The North  American Marten is a Fisher (Cat).  It is a mustelid in the weasel family.

Hoopas and Bounds

So here's the deal....I live in a Native Indian square called Hoopa Tribe Valley.  It is declared a sovereign nation.  So it is kinda like living in Utah.  Maybe somewhere there is a place where Mormons and Natives collide and the natural definition of  "organic" emerges from the biblical smoke signals.

Let's get down to it......I am here working on a project to collect data for a conservation management plan for the American Fisher.  I will also assist with a Black Bear study.  Other animals that I will interact with will hopefully (as they tell me) be Ringtail Cats, Foxes, and Spotted Skunks.  Of course there will be other random cool creatures making there way into my hand so we can become friends.  You will not really need to know how to read to enjoy this, just have someone else summerize the text, otherwise just look at the photos, its what I do.
